The Master Collection by five of the world's most celebrated architects
Phoenix Property Investors has unveiled The Master Collection, the company’s latest premium residential development in Taipei New Town district. Facing Xueshan with Yangmingshan on its north, the project comprises 28 private houses designed by five world distinguished architects. Phoenix collaborated with architects Richard Meier, Jim Olson, Annabelle Selldorf, Steven Harris and Calvin Tsao (from Tsao & McKown) on this project which celebrated their innovation and individual visions.
Surrounded by verdant hills and open spaces, the 28 luxurious houses enjoy easy access to the centre of Taipei city and are integrated into the natural landscape. Offering uncommon privacy and the security of a gated community, each house boasts a private swimming pool and individual garden. Ranging from 6,372 sq ft to 13,718 sq ft, each home within The Master Collection is an inspired architectural masterpiece. Construction on The Master Collection is well underway. With five residences designed by Seattle-based architect Jim Olson due for completion by Q3, 2016.
Mr Samuel W T Chu, Founding Partner, Phoenix Property Investors said, “We have worked closely with the five renowned architects, who brought their collective experience and innovative designs, to deliver our vision.”
Richard Meier, winner of the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honour, has developed a body of work that is characterised by intriguing geometric designs, and his signature whiteness known as ‘The White Guard’. The New York-based studio Richard Meier & Partners Architects has created some of the world’s most iconic and original buildings of the last 40 years, from the admired Getty Centre in Los Angeles, to the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, and Rome’s Jubilee Church.
For The Master Collection Richard Meier & Partners has designed six stand-alone houses, each one taking full advantage of the surrounding natural beauty. Featuring striking geometric contours as the primary visual focus, the stunning white villas are iconic landmarks against the lush surroundings. Comprising three or four bedrooms, each villa contains a walkway that connects the garage to the residence's main entrance.
Jim Olson, the Seattle-based architect and founding partner of Olson Kundig Architects has created an enduring legacy of designs that reflects an innate understanding and integration of nature, art and culture. Since launching his practice in 1966, Olson has distinguished himself as the architect of choice for the world’s most influential art collectors, receiving the AIA Seattle Medal of Honor in 2007. With projects dotted around the globe, the practice’s diverse, award-winning portfolio includes academic, cultural and civic projects, as well as museums and exhibition spaces. In Asia, Olson’s projects include a modern villa on 19 Shek-O Road located within one of Hong Kong’s most exclusive neighbourhoods.
“The architecture of The Master Collection is very beautifully integrated into the landscape,” explains Olson. “The identity of each house really grew out of its setting. Located on the top of the mountain, the houses are designed to offer amazing views from every direction.”
For The Master Collection, Olson has designed five unique houses, each one showcasing Olson’s mastery with space and light as well as his connection to the environment. Due for completion in Q3 2016, each house is deliberately configured to frame the surrounding landscape to best effect.
