The Drainage Services Department awarded a HK$680 m contract for the construction of an effluent tunnel and disinfection facilities. Director of Drainage Services Chan Chi-chiu said it is the 10th major works contract awarded under the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A.
     The contract, awarded to Chun Wo/CFC JV, comprising mainly the construction of an 880-metre effluent tunnel with an internal diameter of 8.5 m and disinfection facilities at Stonecutters Island, is scheduled for completion in early 2015. The tunnel conveys treated effluent from the Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works to an existing outfall drop shaft and provides sufficient retention time for disinfection.
