Lok Ma Chau to be low carbon area
The Lok Ma Chau Loop will be developed into a low-carbon community and the public will be encouraged to use zero-emission transport to commute.
As the loop is situated in an ecologically sensitive location where there are farms, fish ponds and the Mai Po Wetland, and is on bird flight paths, the plan must not adversely affect the environment.
An ecological zone and riverside promenade zone will be set up along the boundary of the loop, with the centre area to be developed for higher education, high-tech research and development as well as creative industries.
As the loop will be a low carbon community, people will not be encouraged to travel there by car. Instead they will be encouraged to use trains to Lok Ma Chau Station, then take convenient and efficient transport, such as the light rail, electrical buses or walk, to the zone via direct pedestrian networks.
