Musketeers Education & Culture Charitable Foundation Limited's proposal has been selected to transform the Former Police Married Quarters Site on Hollywood Road into a creative industries landmark named "PMQ".
Musketeers Foundation will run the transformation project with the support of Hong Kong Design Centre, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Vocational Training Council's Hong Kong Design Institute.
Secretary for Development Carrie Lam said the bureau had received four applications and Musketeers Foundation's project was selected because it can help promote Hong Kong's creative industry, conserve heritage and provide open space for the community.
The project will retain the two quarters blocks and supporting construction, and will provide studios for retailing creative products, an indoor multi-function activity hall, about 2,000 square metres of outdoor open space for creative activities, a creative resources centre, rooms for artists-in-residence, an interpretation area displaying the remains of the former Central School, a landscaped open area and other ancillary commercial facilities such as food and beverage outlets.
The Government has reserved about $420 million under the Public Works Programme for primary renovation of the project. The Musketeers Foundation will bear the costs incurred beyond the Government's works, as well as the costs for interior decoration and daily operation of the creative landmark.
The Government plans to seek funding approval from the Legislative Council¡¯s Finance Committee in mid-2011. The work is expected to start in 2012, and the project is expected to be commissioned in 2014. Musketeers Foundation will be offered fixed term tenancy of 10 years, renewable for another five.
