Macau University new campus commenced construction
The new campus of Macau University in Heng Qin, Zhuhai has officially commenced construction in November. The new campus occupies a site area of 1.09 sq km in Heng Qin, adjacent to Macau. The new campus will have a total CFA of approximately 800,000 sq m, which is 20 times bigger than the existing campus in Macau.
Designed by renowned Chinese architect He Jing Tang, the planning and construction of the new campus is inspired by the ¡®one country two systems¡¯ doctrine. The master plan is based on user-friendly, sustainability, modern and intelligent applications. The landscape design is a mixture of oriental and western concepts.
The development will be divided into three main areas by canals. Each area is just like an island and serves different functions with tranquility. The ¡®island¡¯ enjoys distinct privacy, yet well connected by paths, covered walkways and bridges. A tunnel will be built under the waterway at the border to provide direct access between Macau and Heng Qin.
With a total CFA of over 100,000 sq m, phase 1 of the campus will comprise the library building, central lecture complex and the University History Museum. These blocks together will form the landmark buildings and symbol of the new Macau University in Heng Qin.
