The Zhuhai Government announced plan to construct a new light rail to connect Zhuhai with Shenzhen. The proposed rail line will start from Qi Ao, the same area where Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge lands, on the east coast of Zhuhai.

     The proposed rail line will integrate with the massive light rail system in the Pearl River Delta region, which is under final stage of construction and will be in operation in 2011.

     The proposed Zhuhai-Shenzhen light rail will be running from Qi Ao in Zhuhai to Nanshan in Shenzhen. The new rail line will serve as an alternative route to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge which is under construction and scheduled for completion in 2015-16.
