The expansion work of Shenzhen Airport is in progress. The extension is located on the west side of the existing airport and to the east of the Pearl River estuary. The site covers an area of 13.23 square kilometers and includes a second runway, which is 3800 meters long and 60 meters wide, conforming to the F category flight standard.
     A new passenger terminal, Terminal 3 is also under construction. The 3-storey terminal, with a total CFA of approximately 400,000 square meters, will have direct access of arrival and departure facilities on all 3 levels. It is a new design with an attempt to increase both the capacity and efficiency of the airport.
     It is expected that the second runway will be operational by mid-2011 and Terminal 3 will be completed by the end of 2012.
