Work to commence on Baiyun International Airport Terminal 2
The Guangdong Airport Management Group recently announced that by 2020 the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport will have the capacity to handle 80 million passengers and 3 million tons of air cargo per annum.
All planned infrastructural works are under construction according to schedule. With the recently completion of the Fedex Asia Pacific Freight Centre, the East No 3 and West No 3 boarding link bridges and the Central Air Cargo Terminal, the airport will be geared up before the opening of the Asian Games in November this year.
Construction of Runway No 3 and Passenger Terminal No 2 are being approved recently and works will commence on these two projects at the end of this year and early next year respectively.
Construction works on other new airports in Guangdong Province are also in progress, including: Gie Yang Chao Shan Airport started construction in June 2009 with completion in fall 2011; construction of Mei Xian Airport and extension of Zhan Jiang Airport are progressing according to plan.
