Temporary reclamation to be conducted
The Government plans to conduct dredging and temporary filling works in 2.61 hectares of foreshore and seabed in Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter.
The works include forming 0.7 hectare of temporary reclamation, including a temporary piled jetty, for the construction of the Sha Tin to Central Link protection works; construction of a temporary seawall 340 metres long; and dredging at the southeastern corner of the typhoon shelter of about one hectare for temporary reprovision of an anchorage area.
The protection works are scheduled to start by the end of next year or early 2012. After completion of the protection works the 0.3 hectare temporary reclamation will be retained for the construction of the Central-Wan Chai Bypass.
The remaining temporary reclamation, seawall and piled jetty will be removed while the affected foreshore and seabed will be substantially reinstated in early 2014.
Subject to authorisation of the Sha Tin to Central Link project, about 0.26 hectare of temporary reclamation at the southwestern corner of the typhoon shelter will be retained for the future extension of the Sha Tin to Central Link tunnel. But it will be removed in 2017.
