Former Tai O police station to become a boutique hotel
The organisation turning the historic Tai O police station into a boutique hotel is confident of attracting 60,000 visitors a year. The two-storey building will feature nine suites of 200-400 sq ft each. Room rates will be HK$1,500-2,000 a night. Developing the 108-year-old building into a hotel, which is scheduled to open next year, will benefit the Lantau Island community. The hotel, in which the group will invest HK$66.7 million, is expected to break even in two years. Part of the building will be open to the public, including the reception area and the restaurant. Two former jail cells will be turned into a business centre.
