In the Baiyun District (site of the former Guangzhou Baiyun Airport), a total of 30 projects were approved and construction commenced recently. The projects involve a total investment of more than RMB10 billion. The most important project among all is the Terminal 5 Shopping Complex and the Aviation Exhibition Centre.

      Being converted from the old Air Terminal 5, the shopping centre will have a total GFA of approximately 110,000 square metres. A lot of the old facilities and installations such as boarding bridges, flight control centre and signage of the 70 years old airport will be retained as part of the new shopping complex.

      Being converted from an air terminal, the new shopping centre will be the first project of its kind in China. An Aviation Exhibition Centre will record and display the history of the former airport.

      It is expected that the renovation work will be completed by September this year.
