Building Records Access & Viewing Online System launched by BD
The Buildings Department (BD) is launching a new service of Building Records Access & Viewing Online System. The department currently provides record viewing and copying services at its Building Information Centre through an internal computerised system. The new online system builds on the old one by introducing the latest web-based technologies and Geographic Information System for easy navigation and map search.
The information stored in the system includes 2 million approved plans and 23.5 million related documents including structural calculations of completed private buildings. Plans showing the scheduled areas under the Buildings Ordinance are also available.
The new system offers round-the-clock service which allows users to view building records through the Internet at anytime and anywhere in Hong Kong. It will save customers' time and the cost of travelling to the Buildings Department, providing greater convenience and flexibility.
The estimated number of applications for viewing and copying services through the online system are 25,000 and 20,000 per year.
To use the service, people must register by submitting an application to the Building Information Centre by post, fax, email or in person. Online registration is also available. The centre will issue a login name and assigned password.
