HK$12.6 billion funding for 20 works projects
The Government has applied for funding from the Legislative Council Finance Committee for 20 works projects worth HK$12.6 billion in April.
     One of them is Operation Building Bright. The Government will put up HK$700 million, while the Urban Renewal Authority and Housing Society will each cover HK$150 million.
     There are nine tertiary education institution projects worth HK$6.532 billion. They are Polytechnic University's phase 8 development; Centennial Campus phase 1 & 2 of the University of Hong Kong; the University of Science & Technology's new academic building and the Institute for Advanced Study; Chinese University's centralised general research laboratory complex (block 1) and two integrated teaching buildings; City University's academic and administration building; and Lingnan University's new academic block and student hostel.
     The Government has proposed upgrading the improvement works for Mong Kok Stadium. This will cost about HK$275.5 million. It has also recommended a HK$988.3 million increase in the 2009-10 allocations for six works-related block allocations under the Capital Works Reserve Fund, from a total of HK$4.243 billion.
     Other projects to be endorsed by the Finance Committee include road improvement works associated with the proposed re-alignment of Ngau Tau Kok Fourth Street and Fifth Street and construction of nearby footbridge links; North District and Tolo Harbour sewerage, sewage treatment and disposal upgrade; consultants' fees and site investigation for a planning and engineering study on the development of Lok Ma Chau Loop; infrastructure works for Tseung Kwan O stage I landfill site; widening of Tsuen Wan Road between Tsuen Tsing Interchange and Kwai Tsing Interchange and associated junction improvement works; reconstruction and improvement of Tuen Mun Road; retrofitting noise barriers on Fanling Highway, from the MTR Fanling Station to Wo Hing Road; and retrofitting noise barriers on Fanling Highway from Po Shek Wu Road to the MTR Fanling Station.
