Sheung Wan greening works commenced
Greening works are set to begin in public areas adjacent to the Sheung Wan Stormwater Pumping Station. The HK$200 million pumping station began operation earlier in March to alleviate flooding due to the back-flow of sea water in the area. There will be a 1,300-square-metre pet garden and a 200-metre long promenade in the 5,700-square-metre public area adjacent to the pumping station. The area will open to public in June.
The landscaping works for the adjacent public areas and the promenade will include the planting of 110 trees and more than 20,000 shrubs. Most of the trees are local species including the spider tree, Chinese banyan, Cuban bast, paper-bark tree, white champaca, plumeria rubra and portia Tree. Along the promenade, 38 queen palms will be planted and Chinese banyans will be planted by the Chung Kong Road side to block dust from traffic.
