New Yau Tong Road Playground completed
The MTR Corporation (MTRC) has completed a new 6.5-hectare playground/ rest garden in Yau Tong Road. The playground was designed and constructed by the MTRC to replace the original playground which was relocated as part of the Tseung Kwan O Extension Project.
The new playground is located at Yau Tong Road, next to the Eastern Harbour Crossing (EHC) Housing Development Site Phase 5. It will serve the 70,000 Yau Tong residents when the planned housing developments in the area are completed between 2008-2010. The new Yau Tong Road Playground, equipped with modern recreational facilities, will assist in meeting the needs of the nearby community, enhancing their physical and mental health as well as enriching their social life. The completion of the Yau Tong Road Playground marks a significant milestone in Phase I of the Tseung Kwan O Extension, as it signifies our commitment to bring about quality living to the district.
Phase II of the Tseung Kwan O Extension is currently under construction, with one more station to be added to serve the new community in Area 86 of Tseung Kwan O. The new town at Area 86, called LOHAS Park, will be the largest and one of the greenest residential developments in Hong Kong. The area is close to Clear Water Bay Country Park, and about 40 per cent, or around 13 hectares, of LOHAS Park’s nearly 33-hectare area will be open space, equivalent to the size of two Hong Kong Parks. The extensive planned greenery includes a 200,000-sq-ft Central Park, nearly double the size of the pitch at Hong Kong Stadium.
