The Hong Kong government has officially authorized the Northern Link (NOL) Main Line railway scheme, marking a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity. According to government officials, the NOL Main Line will serve as the primary transportation backbone of the Northern Metropolis, unlocking the development potential of the land along its route. The project is slated for completion in 2034.
The NOL Main Line will integrate with the existing Tuen Ma Line and East Rail Line, creating a railway loop that links the New Territories with Kowloon’s urban area. This expansion is expected to significantly enhance the city’s railway network, providing more seamless travel options for commuters.
Throughout the project’s implementation, the MTR Corporation (MTRC) will maintain close communication with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth progress. Additionally, the MTRC must adhere to the conditions set forth in the environmental permit issued by the Director of Environmental Protection.
Upon completion, the NOL Main Line will drastically reduce travel time between Kam Sheung Road Station and Kwu Tung Station, cutting peak-hour journeys from the current 60 to 80 minutes to just 12 minutes.
