Awardees of Quality Building Award 2008 announced
Quality Building Award (QBA) is a biennial award founded in 2001 by seven building and construction related associations in Hong Kong. The objective of QBA is to acknowledge quality building teams that help construct buildings with outstanding quality. QBA2008 carries a special theme: “Set No Boundary for Quality Buildings”, which means further promotion of concepts behind QBA to areas outside Hong Kong.
     Other than “Residential Category”, “Non-Residential Category” and “Special Category” with sub-categories of “Sustainability”, “Heritage” and “Innovation”, a brand new sub-category of “Project outside Hong Kong” is introduced in 2008.
     QBA2008 is jointly organized by 9 prominent professional organizations including the Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA), the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM), Building Division, Building Services Division and Structural Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Hong Kong Institute of Housing (HKIH), the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA), the Hong Kong Chapter of International Facility Management Association (IFMA - Hong Kong Chapter) and the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong (REDA).
     Members of QBA2008 Jury Panel include: Mr Cheung Hau-wai, JP, Director of Buildings, HKSAR (Chair of Jury Panel), Mr Yu Kam-hung, President, The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Dr Rebecca L H Chiu, JP, Associate Professor, The Centre of Urban Planning & Environmental Management, The University of Hong Kong, Mr Pau Shiu-hung, SBS, JP, Former Director of Architectural Services, HKSAR, Ir Peter Y Wong, Vice President, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Ir Prof Peter K W Mok, Chairman, QBA2008 Organizing Committee, and Prof Richard Frewer, Former Chair Professor & Department Head, Department of Architecture, The University of Hong Kong.
     Hong Kong Institute of Housing will be the Chairing Institute of QBA2010 and will continue to bestow public recognition to buildings of outstanding quality that demonstrate outstanding teamwork.
     With the growing importance of quality building in the community, QBA2008 has received a total of 39 nominations, the highest number recorded since the pioneering QBA2001.
