A 4.9-hectare Tung Chung site has been earmarked for the construction of the North Lantau Hospital. The HK$2.2-billion first phase of the project will be completed by 2012.

     The project will be implemented in two phases and the Government will submit an application to the Town Planning Board in July to re-zone the area for the construction. The processing of the planning application will be completed in the third quarter of 2009. The bureau plans to complete the tendering exercise and seek funding approval from the Finance Committee for phase one in the fourth quarter of 2009.

     To cater for the longer-term development of Lantau Island the bureau will implement phase two and explore the feasibility of introducing a public-private partnership initiative for the development. It will consult Islands District Council on phase two soon.
