With an overwhelming support and recognition from the industry to the first Green Building Award (GBA), the Professional Green Building Council (PGBC) will launch the 2nd GBA again in 2008. The Green Building Award aims to promote sustainable and green development, to recognize developments and research projects with outstanding contributions to sustainability and the environment, and also to encourage the industry towards wider adoption of sustainable practices in planning, design, construction, maintenance and renovation projects. This year, the Award is open to both local projects and projects outside Hong Kong contributed by Hong Kong professionals.
The 3 Categories include New Construction Category (NC) - for Buildings Completed after 01 Jan 2003; Existing Building Category (EB) - for Buildings Completed before 01 Jan 2003; and Research & Planning Studies Category (RP).
The Professional Green Building Council (PGBC) was established in 2003, and now comprises five professional institute members: Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA), Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP), and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS).
The President of PGBC Ir Reuben CHU said “following from the active support we received in the last GBA. PGBC will hold the GBA regularly on a bi-annual basis to promote the importance of sustainable and green developments. For the GBA 2008, winning projects will also be exhibited at the Sustainable Building SB08 World Conference to be held in Melbourne, Australia in late September 2008.”
The nomination deadline of GBA 2008 is 19 May 2008. Nomination form can be downloaded from www.hkpgbc.org. Final assessment by the Judging Panel together with the first screening will take about three months. The award presentation ceremony will be held on 31 July 2008.
