Property owners fined $70,000
Two property owners were fined $70,000 each last month for failing to comply with repeated orders to remove illegal structures. They were fined at West Kowloon Magistry on January 10 after the Buildings Department instigated prosecution against them for the second time.
The first incident occurred in January 2017, when the Buildings Department found two illegal structures with areas of 103 and 86 sq m on the roofs of two premises in a building at Heung Wo Street, Tsuen Wan.
Removal orders were issued to the two owners as the additions violated the Buildings Ordinance. The owners were prosecuted as they failed to remove the unauthorised works by the expiration date of the removal orders. They were fined $26,100 and $26,400 last July at the magistry. However, they were prosecuted again last month as they still failed to remove the illegal structures.
