Strategies for developing Hong Kong into a Smart Sustainable City
On November 22, Business Environment Council Limited (BEC) hosted the EnviroSeries Conference at The Mira Hong Kong. Entitled Towards a Smart Sustainable City – Potential and Opportunities for Hong Kong, the conference attracted over 150 participants, including policy makers, industry experts, business leaders and academics, to examine the opportunities, strategies, innovative technologies and collaborative initiatives in developing Hong Kong into a smart sustainable city.
     Dr David Chung, Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the Hong Kong SAR Government, delivered the opening speech, sharing the government’s latest policy directions in smart city planning. Three panel discussions were delivered by a strong panel of speakers, including Mr Chiang Tung Keung from CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd, Mr Klaus Heidinger from Siemens Centre of Competence Cities, London, Mr Eli Raphael Konvitz from Atkins, Mr Leung Wai Kin from The Hongkong Electric Co Ltd, Dr Ernest S Lo from Hong Kong Internet of Things Alliance, Mr Alexander Mastrovito from Scania Group, Mr Robin (Yuxiang) Ren from Tesla Inc, Prof Geoffrey Shen from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr Thomas Tang, Former Managing Director of Kuala Lumpur Centre for Sustainable Innovation, and Mr Frank Wong from Energizing Kowloon East Office of the HKSAR Government.

Also participated in the event were BEC Board Directors, Mr Tony Miller from Sun Hung Kai Properties and Dr Raymond Yau from Swire Properties. The conference covered three area of discussions, including:
• A Smart Sustainable City – From Energy to Air Quality
• Smart Mobility for a Sustainable City
• Smart decision-making: using data and engaging the public
